About Steve

Steve is a fourth generation Coloradoan born in Sterling, Colorado. After graduating from Westminster High School he joined the U.S. Marine Corps serving from 1988 to 1991.


In 1998, Steve earned a B.A. in Sociology at Metropolitan State College of Denver. While attending Metro State full time Steve was also employed with a company in the corrugated box industry where he was a machine operator, quality assurance technician and supervisor.

Steve was elected to Thornton City Council in 2003 and re-elected in 2007.  Steve enjoys playing games with his grandson Cash and his son Liam.  Steve’s sister also lives in Colorado. His father was in the country music industry, writing three number one songs in the 1970’s, and Steve’s mother is a successful business professional.

From 2007 to 2009, Steve served as Mayor Pro Tem. In 2009, Steve was hired as a Contract Specialist for the Department of Interior, U.S. Geological Survey working at the Denver Federal Center in Lakewood. Steve’s dedication to conservation is what drew him to a Department whose mission statement, in part, is to preserve our nation’s open spaces and wildlife areas.
